FAQ

  • WHAT KIND OF BIKE IS NEEDED?
Most people will be riding gravel bikes, but flat bar touring bikes, hardtail mountain bikes, or cyclocross bikes with gravel tires will all work just fine. Something with 38c tires or larger would be best! Sorry our insurance doesn't cover e-bikes at our event.
  • WHAT ARE THE ROUTE OPTIONS?
There will be two suggested route options. Short route: approx. 50km with 550m elevation gain Long route: approx. 75 - 90km with 1500m elevation gain
  • I AM NEW TO GRAVEL, WHAT ROUTE SHOULD I RIDE?
If you are new to gravel we would suggest the short route so you still have some dancing energy in your legs for Saturday evenings live music! We welcome anyone to challenge themselves on the long route, but be warned it is a big long climb with some chunky technical sections on the descent. We want you to have fun and ride in your comfort zone.
  • CAN I BRING AN RV OR TRAILER?
Yes you can, we will have an area setup for trailers, RVs & campers. Please be mindful of space and try to share your setup with a friend so we can fit everyone in. This is dry camping and there are NO HOOK-UPS at the venue for trailers or RVs.
  • IS THERE AN ATM ON SITE?
There is no ATM on site, however our vendors will have ways to pay with cards.
  • ARE CAMP FIRES ALLOWED?
Fires will be designated to special event propane fire pits only, sorry no wood camp fires at our event. Gas camping cook stoves are ok to use at your camp site but please be responsible with your cooking setups. If you see an unattended fire please contact a BASECAMP staff member immediately!
  • ARE THERE BEARS?
We are close to nature and there is the possibility of bears. Please be smart when storing your food while we are out riding and at night. As always we are guests on this land, and we need to respect the animals who we share this space with.
  • WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE?
Although the start of June is typically starting to warm up with temperatures averaging from 15-20 degrees, anything can happen. We hope you don't need to pull out your rain jacket, but it's better to be prepared.
  • IS THIS A RACE?
BASECAMP is not a race! There is no timing for the ride, so you can truly ride at your own pace. The idea is that you find people who fit your ability and fitness and enjoy the adventure together. There will be a lot of elevation on the main ride and some technical sections, though it's not a race it is still meant to be a challenge.
  • WHERE IS THE COURSE MAP?
We will post GPS files to download to your bike computer closer to the event date. There will be more details about the ride distances and difficulties on the route page. Have more questions? Shoot us an email basecampgravel@gmail.com
  • ARE THERE SHOWERS AT THE VENUE?
Yes, there are a few showers on site. Shower quick to save some hot water for your friends.
  • IS THERE CELL RECEPTION ON THE ROUTES?
There is no cell reception out on the routes, we highly suggest downloading the route maps when they are available before coming to the event. We will send out information in the rider guide before the event. The cell reception at the venue works for some providers but no one will have service on course.
